How to choose a floating bean bag lounger

Who it's for: pool owners who want one piece that floats in the water and sits as a bean bag on the deck. The House of Dune Floating Lounger fits two.

A floating bean bag lounger is also called a pool bean bag: a bean-filled lounger with a cover made for water, so it floats in the pool and doubles as outdoor seating.

What to look for, and how the Floating Lounger measures up

  • Does it float? Yes. Filled correctly, the House of Dune Floating Lounger floats gently in the pool and works as poolside furniture when you're out of the water.
  • Bean-filled or inflatable? An inflatable is light and folds flat, but needs pumping and can lose air. The Floating Lounger is filled once with bean bag beads, so there's nothing to pump or deflate. The trade-off: it's heavier once filled, takes two to carry far, and needs a spot on the deck or in the shed.
  • Size: 120 × 110 cm with a 65 cm back, spacious enough for two.
  • Cover: durable Olefin that's UV-resistant, fade-proof and quick-dry, with mesh drainage to let water out. It's mould-resistant, not mould-proof.
  • Fill: filling is not included. Allow about 600 L of outdoor EPS bean bag beads (a little more for a firmer fill) and about ten minutes with two people.
  • Safety: a child-safety zip that opens with a paperclip or keyring. It's a lounger, not a swimming aid, so always supervise children in and around the pool.

Care: rinse the cover with fresh water after the pool and let it dry completely before storing. The cover comes off to wash at 30°C or below.

Floating lounger questions

+Do bean bags float in water?
A bean bag made for the pool does. The House of Dune Floating Lounger floats gently in the pool when it's filled correctly with outdoor EPS bean bag beads, then sits as a bean bag on the deck or lawn. Its Olefin cover is quick-dry with mesh drainage, so water runs out when you lift it out. Filling is not included.
+How much filling does a floating bean bag lounger need?
The House of Dune Floating Lounger needs about 600 L of outdoor EPS bean bag beads, or a little more for a firmer fill, depending on how firm you like it. Filling is not included. Refill is sold by bean bag retailers, homewares stores and some hardware stores in bags of about 100 to 300 litres. Filling takes about ten minutes with two people; our Floating Lounger fill and set-up video shows each step.
+What is a pool bean bag?
A pool bean bag is a bean bag made to float. It's filled with bean bag beads instead of air, with a cover made for sun and water, so it floats in the pool and works as a bean bag on the deck. The House of Dune Floating Lounger is a pool bean bag that fits two, with a quick-dry Olefin cover and mesh drainage. Filling is not included.
+Is a pool bean bag safe for kids?
The House of Dune Floating Lounger is a lounger, not a swimming aid or flotation device, so always supervise children in and around the pool. Its child-safety zip closes by hand and opens only with a paperclip or keyring.
+How much room does a pool lounger need?
The House of Dune Floating Lounger measures 120 × 110 cm with a 65 cm back, and it's spacious enough for two. Because it stays filled, plan a spot for it out of the water too: on the deck, the lawn or in the shed. Keep it somewhere dry and out of direct sun when it's not in use.
+Is a bean-filled pool lounger better than an inflatable?
It depends on how you'll use it. An inflatable is light and deflates flat into a cupboard, but needs pumping and can lose air. The House of Dune Floating Lounger is bean-filled: no pump, nothing to deflate, it moulds around you, and it doubles as a bean bag on the deck. It's heavier once filled and takes two to carry far.
+What should I look for in an outdoor bean bag?
Look for a cover made for sun and water, drainage, and a cover you can wash. The House of Dune Floating Lounger uses durable Olefin that's UV-resistant, fade-proof and quick-dry, with mesh drainage and a removable cover you can wash at 30°C or below. It's mould-resistant, not mould-proof, so rinse and dry it after use.
